It has a quintessentially English village green with period properties around the edge, duck pond and cricket pitch. There are two pubs in the village, The Star, which is a traditional English pub, and The Poet, that serves refined restaurant style food. There is also an award-winning family butcher, village hall and post office.
Royal Tunbridge Wells is easily accessible and offers a large shopping centre as well as an out of town retail park with bowlplex and cinema.
The village falls within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and there are some beautiful walking routes through the surrounding farmland, orchards and woodland.
Paddock Wood (about 2.5 miles to the North) offers more comprehensive shopping facilities including supermarkets and a mainline rail station. Tunbridge Wells is also easily accessible, offering a multitude of shops and facilities, a cinema, theatre and many fine restaurants. Paddock Wood also has a mainline rail station with services to London Charing Cross and Cannon Street (London Bridge in about 45 minutes). There are buses that stop in the village servicing local schools in Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Paddock Wood and Cranbrook.
The village shares a primary school with the neighbouring village of Brenchley.
