Heathfield is a market town offering an array of shops and facilities. It is located about 14 miles South of Tunbridge Wells and 17 miles North of Eastbourne.

The town has a number of independent shops as well as Co-Op, Sainsburys and Waitrose supermarkets and a Tesco Express. There are also a number of cafes, restaurants, take-away food outlets, a bakery, butcher, grocery store, pharmacies, hairdressers/barbers, an ironmongers, discounted homeware store, dosctors’ surgery, dental practices and a fortnightly farmers market, plus much more. The town really does have a lot to offer.

The surrounding countryside is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering some lovely walking, cycling and riding opportunities. The Cuckoo Trail starts from the town and provides a 14 mile surfaced path through the Sussex countryside, safe for walkers and cyclists.

The nearest railway stations are at Stonegate (6.8 miles) and Buxted (6.7 miles). Stonegate serves London Charing Cross and Cannon Street (London Bridge in just under 1hr), whilst Buxted’s London services normally involve a change at Hurst Green (Buxted to London Victoria via Hurst Green taking approximately 1hr28minutes), although there are occasional direct services to London Bridge in about 1hr 16minutes.

The town has a “good” primary school (Ofsted 2022) and a popular secondary school. In neighbouring Five Ashes is Skippers Hill preparatory school, and there is also the private day and boarding girls school in nearby Mayfield.
