The picturesque hill-top village of Goudhurst occupies an elevated position overlooking the Kentish Weald, about 5 miles West of Cranbrook and 12 miles East of Tunbridge Wells. The period High Street benefits from a magnificent 12th century Norman Church and a lovely collection of historic buildings, many of them in traditional Kentish weatherboard style.
Outstanding Natural Beauty and many walks
The village centre has a charming duck pond and offers a good selection of independent shops including a convenience store, a bakery/tea room, a pharmacy, newsagents incorporating a post office, gift shop, hairdressers, doctors surgery, public houses (The Vine – currently closed - and The Star & Eagle in the centre of the village, plus The Goudhurst Inn on the way out of the village towards Cranbrook), lady’s fashion shop, and a village hall. On the outskirts of the village is Taywell Farm Shop and café, which also produces Taywell ice cream.
Goudhurst and Kilndown primary school enjoys an excellent reputation having achieved an outstanding Ofsted report. There is also a pre-school in the village, both with recreation ground and play area close-by. In addition to this are a range of state and private schools nearby including Bethany School at Goudhurst, Cranbrook School and Dulwich Preparatory at Cranbrook, Saint Ronan’s and Marlborough House at Hawkhurst, Uplands Community College at Wadhurst and grammar schools for both boys and girls in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge.
Cranbrook is the nearest town with a supermarket and Tunbridge Wells offers a much wider selection of shopping, recreational and leisure facilities.
For the commuter there are mainline rail services from the nearby towns/villages of Paddock Wood (7.5 miles), Marden (5.2 miles) and Staplehurst (7.3 miles) which offer regular services to London Charing Cross (Marden to London Bridge in about 50 minutes).
The A21 (about 2.7 miles to the West) provides easy access to Tunbridge Wells and the M25 to the North (junction 5 in about 35 minutes) and Hastings to the South.
The Area is designated as one of Outstanding Natural Beauty and there are many walks to be enjoyed in the surrounding countryside especially at nearby Bedgebury Pinetum and around Bewl Water Reservoir.
