Five Ashes is a small village on the outskirts of Mayfield (about 2.5 miles to the North-East). It has a public house and a village hall that hosts many classes and events, together with a memorial playing field and children’s playground. It also has a “good” primary school (Ofsted March 2020) and an excellent preparatory school in Skippers Hill Manor.

The village is largely connected with Mayfield, which offers day-to-day shopping amenities. Heathfield (3.5 miles South), Uckfield (7 miles West), Crowborough (8 miles North-West) and Tunbridge Wells (12 miles North) all offer a broader selection of shopping facilities including supermarkets.
The nearest railway stations are at Buxted (4.5 miles West), Crowborough (4.6 miles), Stonegate (8.7 miles) and Wadhurst (8.9 miles). Buxted and Crowborough have services to London Victoria (via Hurst Green – approx. 1hr20mins from Crowborough) and Stonegate and Wadhurst are on the London Charing Cross/Cannon Street line (Stonegate to London Bridge in just under 1hr).
There are bus services in the village serving Tunbridge Wells and Heathfield.
The village is located in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the surrounding countryside offers some wonderful walking opportunities via country lanes.
