Buxted is a small rural village on the outskirts of Uckfield (about 3 miles). It lies on the A272, which links it to the neighbouring towns and the A26, which in turn provides easy access to Tunbridge Wells and the South coast.

Discover more about Buxted

The village is perhaps best known for Buxted Park, a luxury Grade II* listed Palladian mansion hotel set in over 300 acres that hosts a number of events attracting people from far and wide.

Buxted offers a good selection of facilities including a convenience store, medical centre and a “good” primary school (Ofsted 2023). There are also two popular pubs in The White Hart and The Buxted Inn, two churches, including the 13th century, Grade I listed St Margaret the Queen in Buxted Park, and a number of sports clubs, some held in association with Buxted Park.

The village has its own railway station, albeit most of the London services involve a change at Hurst Green (Buxted to London Victoria via Hurst Green taking approximately 1hr28minutes), although there are occasional direct services to London Bridge in about 1hr 16minutes. Uckfield station (3 miles) has direct services to London Bridge in about 1hr20mins.

Uckfield offers more comprehensive facilities including supermarkets, banks, a cinema and leisure centre with pool. Heathfield (6 miles), Crowborough (6.5 miles), Haywards Heath (13 miles) and Tunbridge Wells (14 miles) are all within half an hours drive and Brighton is only about 40 minutes away, meaning you are pretty well catered for in every direction.

Uckfield, Heathfield and Crowborough all have secondary schools. There is a very well regarded preparatory school, Skippers Hill, in nearby Five Ashes.

The A272 provides access to the A22/A26/M23, in turn linking with the M25 and thereby the national motorway network, London and the international airports.

Tucked between the High Weald AONB and South Downs AONB, Buxted itself does not fall within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, although the surrounding countryside is quite beautiful with numerous footpaths and bridlepaths to explore. The Ashdown Forest is within 5 miles of Buxted.
