Raising £13,000 is no small feat, and it’s a crucial step in the journey of a guide dog. It costs approximately £55,000 to breed, train, and support a guide dog throughout their life. This includes not only the initial training but also ongoing support such as food, veterinary bills, and continued training once the dog is partnered with someone in need.
The Peacehaven Coastal fundraising group managed to gather this substantial amount through a variety of local activities, including collections and sponsored events. Phillipa Thom from Guide Dogs expressed her gratitude, saying, “We want to say a big thank you to the Peacehaven fundraising group for doing so well to raise this amount. It takes hard work and dedication to do what they do, and we’re so grateful.”
Guide dogs like Lucas are truly life-changing, providing independence and confidence to those with sight loss. This £13,000 will go a long way in ensuring that Lucas and other guide dogs can continue to offer their invaluable service. Phillipa added, “We couldn’t do what we do without the support and efforts of our volunteers and the local community that supports them. Thank you to everyone who helped to raise these funds.”
The charity is now looking for more volunteers to join their cause, whether it’s through fundraising or helping to raise puppies. If you’re inspired by the Peacehaven group’s achievement, there are plenty of ways you can get involved and make a difference.
