Inspired by the book "A Story for Boys Who Dare to Be Different," Oscar and Cain decided to make a tangible difference in their local environment. "Our natural environment is precious and under threat, even on our own doorsteps," they explained. "It is important to look after our environment, and that starts locally as well as helping the whole planet."
Their epic journey took them along the Forest Way, a 26.2-mile route from Wadhurst to East Grinstead. The boys aimed to raise enough money to remove 250lbs of rubbish from the sea and plant 250 trees, with every pound raised equating to one pound of rubbish removed or one tree planted.
The community rallied around these young heroes, with many strangers sponsoring them along the way. Ken from Stairs Farm Campsite in Hartfield even offered them complimentary camping in support of their noble cause. "It was hard work but worth the achy feet!" said Oscar. Cain added, "It was amazing to help #TeamTrees and #TeamSeas. Thanks to Ken for helping."
Their story is a shining example of how even the youngest among us can make a significant impact. Oscar and Cain's dedication not only helped clean up their local area but also contributed to global environmental efforts. Their journey serves as an inspiration for others to take action and make a difference in their communities.
So, next time you see litter on the ground, remember Oscar and Cain's story and consider how you can contribute to a cleaner, greener planet. Together, we can make a difference, one step at a time.
